Settlement in the area began in 1833, and the community was first named South Northfield.  When it was incorporated in 1899, the Village of Glenview had 350 residents.  Glenview Road, a well-known thoroughfare that runs through the heart of Glenview, follows a Native American trail leading from the Des Plaines River to Lake Michigan.

Overall, Glenview is a great place to live and work, with natural parklands and fantastic shopping districts that now define this former military town.  Occupying 142 acres of land and open space, Gallery Park is the largest community park within Glenview.  Beautiful Lake Glenview is located here, offering opportunities to fish, kayak or canoe.  The acclaimed Park Center recreational facility is located at the southern edge of Gallery Park, on Chestnut Avenue.

The museum offers numerous interactive, hands-on exhibits and multiple events throughout the year.  An average of 300,000 people visit Kohl Children’s Museum annually, and approximately 6,000 families are members of the Museum.
