Golf is a small village in Illinois that is located approximately 17 miles north of downtown Chicago. It is just west of Wilmette, IL. The village is home to approximately 170 families and one commercial enterprise - the Western Golf Association and its Evans Scholars Foundation. In spite of its small size, Golf offers dedicated services and amenities, such as a police department, post office, and Metra train station. The community is also home to several restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. The village hosts small town festivities and activities on holidays, such as the Fourth of July celebration. The public schools in Golf are highly rated, making it an attractive place to live.

The name "Golf" has an interesting origin. Around 1899, Albert J. Earling, President of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, regularly took his private rail car from his offices downtown to golf at the Glen View Golf Club. He would tell people he was "going to golf," and this led to the naming of the village. Earling arranged to have his car switched to a special siding at what is now the Golf train station, and other members began using this siding, leading to it becoming a regular stop known as the "golf stop". The stop is still regularly used to this day as part of the Metra District North Line.
